The practice was founded by Dr Alistair Smith in Stockton and Dr Peter Hood in Thornaby. After becoming Partners they practiced in Dovecot Street until the original Lawson Street Health Centre opened. Dr Smith retired in 1979, to be replaced by Dr Kevin OByrne and Dr Sinha joined in 1988 upon Dr Hoods retirement.
In 2006 the new Health Centre was opened on the same site after 12 months working from temporary accommodation on what is now the car park. Dr OByrne retired in December 2010 and was replaced by Dr Garud in January 2011. Dr Garud currently teaches 2nd year medical students at Durham University.
In September 2014 Dr Sinha retired from the practice.
In October 2014 Dr Chawla joined as a partner to work along side Dr Garud. Dr Chawla is an experienced Gp who joined us from The Green House Surgery in Redcar. Dr Chawla is both a trainer and appraiser of other GP’s.
In February the practice received its first registrar and was joined for the next six months by Dr Shahid.
We continue to have registrars placed with the practice on a regular rotation.
